The Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County serves Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan and Stamford and annually holds Volunteer Recognition Days in each community.

The purpose of these events is to invite nonprofit organizations to participate in an opportunity to identify and nominate their volunteers who have contributed to the improvement of their community through their active roles.

The Volunteer Center honors volunteer contributors in categories which include:

• Outstanding youths
• Adults
• Seniors
• Volunteering couples
• Families

Within these categories individuals and groups are honored in subdivisions. Selection committees review the nominations based on the following criteria:

• Achievement
• Action
• Caring
• Commitment
• Impact
• Initiative
• Leadership
• Joy
• Need
• Time
